It is a fine recent Olympic tradition that the formerly ignored homeless and vagrant population of the Olympic City suddenly become visible just before the Games. Instead of their visibility provoking an effort to help these people and to deal with the problems they face, the general approach is to try to hide them.I made this poster in 1998 and decided to wait until the voices calling for the "removal" of disadvantaged people grew louder. It's actually really easy to predict the future. In the Sydney Sun Herald on January 16th 2000, the headline read: "SWEPT UNDER THE CARPET - Homeless pushed out for Games" |
