Love Means Never Having
To Say You're Sorry.

Lin Tobias, Susi Blackwell and Monique McNamara with the Guerrilla Girls@Redplanet.

My original idea for using the line "Love means never having to say you're sorry" was to use it in a "Farewell Tribute" to John Howard. This was back in those halcyon days when it seemed clear that he would lose the election.

As we all know, he didn't lose; so the poster didn't happen.

Then, around January 2003, I started working on the current poster.

Unknown to me however, a poster using the line had not only been done two years earlier, but it had run all over Melbourne.

Needless to say, If I'd seen the original poster, I'd never have pursued mine.

But I hadn't, so I went merrily on my way.

The end result is that my poster, while very different visually, remains unmistakably the same idea.

Ooops.

The original "Love means never having to say you're sorry." poster was created by:

Lin Tobias, Susi Blackwell and Monique McNamara working with the Guerrilla Girls at a poster workshop called Redplanet.
